Five Years On… Where Are We Now?
Our avid fans (ok, perhaps I’ve over egged that…) who have followed the 3Search journey since we started in 2014 will know that we initially set out with the best of intentions to blog about our experience of starting a business and how it was all going every few months, but as seems to have become the way for many of us, life has been so busy that it’s taken a long weekend to pause, reflect and update on our recent progress.
2019 will represent our 5th year of trading and quite amazingly to a lot of people, including ourselves, we’re still going strong as a three. Like any relationship, we know we’ve got to work really hard at it but the three of us remain very much aligned on the initial vision that was hatched many years ago! 2018 was another record-breaking year for 3Search, with the business nearly doubling the number of placements we made compared to 2017. This is a testament to the continued hard work of everyone at 3Search, combined with our experience and a tried and tested recruitment methodology which has been refined and developed over the last few years.
Adding up the ‘company register,’ our headcount is up to 30 heads in 3Search now and a further 20 as part of the wider 11 Investments group. Within the 3Search business, we’ve continued our hiring strategy which for us is a matrix model of consultants focusing on sectors (such as Financial Services, Property and Travel & Tourism) and also job types within the marketing and digital sphere, like tough to recruit areas such as CRM, Analytics, UX, E-Commerce & Digital Product to name just a few. The plan is to continue to grow like this, as we feel as though we can best serve our clients with a healthy mix of the two.
Going into the second half of 2019, we will continue to invest in our growing Tech business, led by Andrew Mason, where there are obvious opportunities for growth and also our growing interim & temporary team, led by Darryl Corley and our latest recruit, Fran Rossi, to make sure we can service the immediate needs of our client base!
Looking back at 2018, it was great to see the business evolve and grow. As well as many new faces, we recognised a number of the existing team with promotions across all levels. It was great to see Emily, Charlotte and Jasmin promoted to Consultant, Richard to Manager and Michael (aka Judders) promoted to Senior Manager. There are big plans around promotions in 2019 so looking forward to making those happen in the coming weeks and months.
A huge part of what we have tried to do from a cultural perspective is celebrate success along the journey and 2018 was no different. Looking back to a summer day at the races in Newbury or a slightly different setting of us running around Shoreditch as part of our cooking challenge, it was great to get out the office!
Undoubtedly, the biggest highlight was our inaugural top performers’ trip to New York. Too much fun was had to list it all here, but whether it was a fantastic day of sightseeing with our tour guide Bonnie, courtside tickets at the Knicks or a few ‘quiet’ drinks with our favourite waiter Russ, it will be a trip with highlights that live long into the history for 3Search.
One of the biggest undertakings of the last 6 months has been our latest office move. After 4 short term leases, it felt like time to really lay down some roots and find somewhere we could truly call home. We managed to find a great space on the edge of Soho on Glasshouse Street, giving us plenty of space for the next couple of years.
Alongside our new office, we’ve continued to try and evolve our benefits package to attract the best talent out there! The longer serving members of our team will tell you that the benefits package was pretty sparse when we started the business! Unlimited holiday was the only benefit of note, however that’s grown to include a discounted gym membership, pension scheme and our latest benefit which is a long term savings scheme for our team to try and help with saving to buy a property or pay a chunk of money off an existing mortgage. Employee benefits is something we keep looking at as the needs of employees develops and evolves!
Looking ahead, one of the big projects on the agenda for the rest of the year is updating and overhauling our website. The original site has been great, but it’s time for a refresh and some new ideas so watch this space! Outside of this, we are placing more emphasis than ever on offering great customer experience. That’s both clients and candidates in our world. And while we know we don’t get it right every single time, we are striving to grow the business by offering best in class customer service!
We aren’t about to change our ‘work hard play hard’ mentality, as 2019 has already seen us take over ‘Swingers’ for an overly competitive round of mini golf, head to the Michelin-starred restaurant, Marcus, in Knightsbridge to celebrate Q1 lunch club and we have our now traditional half year conference booked for Ascot in July to look forward to! Plenty to keep us busy going forward.
