We began working with Savills in 2015 to grow and develop their bids department. Since then, our specialist bid recruitment team have placed almost the entire bids team. Director, David Wall, and Manager, David Bremner, have built a very close relationship with Savills and are now the business’s recruiters of choice.
Building out the bids team has been just part of the work 3Search has achieved in partnership with Savills. We have also worked with their marketing, digital marketing and communications teams to hire some excellent talent.
When we first began working with the company, Savills were looking to build a business development function for the first time. However, their internal recruitment team were struggling to identify the right calibre of candidates.
Bid Managers have a very niche skillset and so there is a very small candidate pool to engage with. As a result, having exhausted all of the usual recruitment channels, Savills recognised the benefits of partnering with a specialist bid recruitment agency. So, the hiring manager reached out to 3Search bids specialist recruiter, David Wall.
David and his team have been able to leverage their network of Bid Managers to build Savills’ initial business development team and have continued to support on their expansion ever since.
Working within such a competitive market, it is important to offer the right compensation package to attract candidates. One of the biggest challenges David and Head of Bids, Ellie Blenkinsop, faced was explaining to the wider business the value of the bids team to the company.
Consequently, David was able to provide Ellie with the market research to secure the budget needed to hire the best bids talent.
While the majority of the Savills bids team has been placed by headhunting talent, we have also identified excellent candidates for the business through less traditional means.
3Search are proud to be active members of the bids community and often attend the APMP conferences. These events provide the perfect opportunity for our specialist recruiters to stay up-to-date with the industry and grow their networks of candidates and employers.
We take our connections seriously and always keep in touch with those we meet. Having had a follow-up conversation with one candidate we met at an event, we were able to put them in touch with Savills. We had taken the time to understand what they were looking to gain from their next career move, and Savills was the perfect match. The candidate started with the business shortly after.

I worked with David Bremner on my move to Savills. For someone who was on the fence about leaving their previous employer, he was patient with me, non-pushy and pragmatic.
