The story of Naked Wines

Founded in 2008, Naked Wines is a D2C wine retailer with a mission to connect independent winemakers directly with customers. By removing the middleman, Naked Wines allow customers to enjoy top-quality wine at fair prices while supporting small producers.  

As the business evolved, a shift in strategy in 2025 created the opportunity to reimagine how the marketing function was built. The Chief Growth Officer identified the need for specialist marketers across digital, brand and performance.

Challenge: A new structure, a new team

As part of their transformation, Naked Wines needed to hire five brand new marketing roles - covering CRM, trade, brand, and digital performance. All were specialist hires critical to the next phase of growth.  

Initially, the business wanted to keep the hires confidential and couldn’t advertise any of the roles publicly. They needed a recruitment partner who could act with discretion, offer specialist insight, and move fast to find high-calibre talent aligned with their transformation goals. 

Solution: A confidential, multi-hire search led by specialists

We partnered with the Chief Growth Officer and their team to run a multi-hire project across marketing. We ran a discreet, relationship-led search to deliver a full shortlist across all five roles, without compromising confidentiality. 

Every role required a different specialism, so we deployed multiple recruitment consultants - each an expert in their vertical - to run targeted searches:

  • Fabio Can Alesi to support on the CRM roles
  • Victoria Stokes to work on the trade marketing jobs

The entire team build was overseen by Director, Michael Judkins, who organised communications with Naked Wines and ensured everyone was aligned on the search parameters. 

Instead of advertising, we activated our networks and reached out directly to candidates with the right experience. Every approach was carefully positioned to maintain confidentiality while showcasing the opportunity for growth. 

We also provided strategic advice on role design, salary benchmarking, and how to position the opportunity to maximise interest. Weekly updates and candidate insights helped the team stay aligned and move quickly without losing focus. 


 

Result: Five hires through one trusted partner

In just six weeks, we successfully placed five new marketing hires: 

  • CRM Manager 
  • Marketing Manager x2 
  • Trade Marketing Manager 
  • Marketing Executive 

These hires have added key skills across digital, retention, brand, and trading, ensuring the business has the marketing capability it needs for future growth.
