Adapting to a new recruitment market

2022 saw an unusually frantic hiring period where all candidates – from E-commerce Managers to E-commerce Directors – were flooded with job offers. Now, we have seen the recruitment market normalise with more candidates searching for jobs.

Although it might be easy to believe that this shift makes recruitment easier for employers, this market presents new challenges, including:

  1. The cost-of-living crisis
  2. An increased number of applications
  3. Limited hiring resources
  4. Fast-approaching deadlines

If you find yourself facing these recruitment struggles, our report can help. Updated with new information for H2, this report details actionable takeaways, including salaries, for employers to secure top talent in this new recruitment market.

How have e-commerce salaries changed?

Coined the year of salary inflation, our data revealed that there was a 20% increase in salaries between 2021 and 2022. In 2023, however, we have seen salaries stagnate, with an average increase of just 2%.

As candidates refuse to move roles for a lower rate, salaries have retained their all-time high. In fact, salary remains their top priority when moving roles. If you haven’t hired for e-commerce, Amazon or marketplace roles recently, we would strongly recommend comparing your salaries with the market average. Use our e-commerce salary guide to ensure you’re offering prospective candidates the right compensation package.

Preparing your ecommerce team for the end of the year

Is your ecommerce team ready for the end of year activity? With Black Friday, Christmas and New Year sales swiftly approaching, it’s important to hire quickly and confidently to ensure your teams are well-equipped for H2 of 2023.

As a result, you should spend some time assessing the structure of your current team and understanding if you need to onboard contractors to support with the increased workload.

Contract recruitment has been key this year for getting more value from your hiring budget. One popular trend in contract recruitment has involved hiring more senior e-commerce staff on a part-time basis, instead of junior hires on a full-time basis.

We have seen lots of retailers take this route this year and expect the trend to continue throughout the busy period.
